The Philadelphia Flyers owner has taken some heat in recent days for saying that the gate on their plane will remain closed to the public for security reasons until an airport official decides on the best way to handle the situation.
Flyers general manager Ron Hextall made the comments to the Philadelphia Inquirer after an interview in which he was asked about security concerns.
“I think there’s always some level of security concerns,” Hextill said.
“Obviously it’s the case with the gate, it’s not always that way.”
Hextell said the Flyers have had a lot of discussions with airport officials and security experts, but that the decision on how to handle that situation would be up to the airport.
Hextalls statement comes after Flyers owner Ron Hektall said Thursday that the team is not prepared to take any additional security measures.
He said the team will continue to provide an adequate level of safety for the team and fans.
“We’re going to have to figure out a way to do that,” he said.
He added that the Flyers plan to make an announcement on the security measures that will be put in place in the near future.
